Video in the Classroom Introduction

I feel that this video was very cute and creative. Mr. Needleman found other ways to educate his students other than pencil and paper. I believe that this is a great opportunity for students to achieve more in reading and writing. Mr. Needleman is a very intelligent individual. I am sure that he will make a positive impact in many of his students lives.

Podcasting

Hmm...Let's see, where do I start... I thought the podcasts were informative but very boring (well most of them at least.) I started off with the Smart board lessons. This podcast was one of the few that did get my attention in the first ten minutes. I am not sure if I viewed the correct one, but this one mentioned the website: buildyourwildself.com. I went to the website and I ended up “building my wild self”. It seems that this could actually get the students more involved with their schoolwork by letting them build their own avatar for the classroom. I did think the idea was a good one.

The next podcast I viewed was KidCast. This KidCast episode talked about video podcasting. I feel that it was informative as well. The speaker gave us his advice on whether we should start off with audio podcasting and gradually move along to video podcasting. He also listed the pros and cons about the situation. I think it would be best to start off doing audio broadcasting to get the hang of things and then eventually work our way up to video podcasting.

Then, I listened to EdTech Talk. This episode was about “Teachers Teaching Teachers” and they were sharing their knowledge about Google Docs. They explained how to upload templates and share them in the class. I did not know that Google offered these types of tools until Dr. Strange introduced them to us in class on Thursday. I believe this feature is wonderful and very accessible for both the students and the teachers. This is something that I would be interested in using in my classroom.

The next podcast I listened to was MacBreak Weekly. I did not get anything out of the MacBreak Weekly. I did not really comprehend what they were talking about. Therefore, it did not interest or inform in any way.

The last podcast I listened to was This Week in Photography. This episode basically talked about the hand-strap for the camera. It was somewhat informative, especially for those who use a camera often. Overall, as I stated earlier, majority of the podcasts were informative.

Vicki Davis: Harness Your Students' Digital Smarts

I believe this video shows a unique way of teaching. Although I do not consider myself to me technologically literate, I do see myself trying to learn and experiment on different ways of teaching. I feel that teaching with different learning styles can reach out to more students whose only way of learning is in one style or another.

I believe that there are many teachers who would like to teach this way. In reality, many cannot because of money issues with school systems. This problem not only affects the teachers' teaching process but also the students' learning process. I do hope that one day an adequate amount of technology will be available to every school system. This will help our students become even more advanced than they already are!

Sir Ken Robinson: The Importance of Creativity

I would like to start off by saying that Sir Ken Robinson is a very intelligent and entertaining man. I agree that children cannot express much creativity in the classrooms. I also agree with Sir Robinson about dance and other creative activities such as art and music. These activities are just as important as math and reading. I believe that this is why many talented musicians and artists in the world do not get much recognition. Creativity and its importance has vanished even before the students are able to learn about it and express themselves.

As Sir Ken Robinson stated, “If you are not prepared to be wrong, you'll never come up with anything original.” This statement is true in so many ways. This is how people learn from their mistakes. They often take their mistakes and run with it, coming up with unique and original ideas. Overall, Sir Robinson expressed thoughts that I did not even think about until now!

Mr. Winkle Wakes by Matthew Needleman

The video on Mr. Winkle indicates that although mostly everything changed over the past one hundred years he has been sleeping, the classrooms in schools managed to stay the same as time and technology increased. This indicates that no matter how much technology advances, there is always going to be a need for teachers to TEACH. As time progress, even more technology will emerge. Although teachers will most likely use some type of technology to teach, teachers will still be apart of students lives. Students will still have to study, take notes, have homework, and pass tests.

In my opinion, I believe that Mr. Winkle definitely got his point across. There were so much new technology when he woke up that he probably did not think it was possible in his days. In the next one hundred years, or maybe even fifty, there will be much more technology than we would have ever thought about. This just makes me wonder and anticipate on how the future will impact our lives for better or for worse.

Did You Know? 3.0

The Did You Know video was very interesting and informative. It let you know how far the world has come in a matter of years. Everyone's knowledge (some much more than others) progresses as each day goes on. It somewhat bothers me to know that India is somewhat more advanced than the United States. That statement just makes me want to work even harder at what I (as an American) do!

In all, the entire world shows there true knowledge in one form or another. It will continue to grow as the world, population, and technology increases. In the meantime, life goes on and so will everyone's knowledge and technology!

Hi,

My name is Erica Burrell and I am a junior at the University of South Alabama. I am majoring in Elementary Education and I hope to one day make a difference in children's lives. I am a transfer student. I recently graduated from Faulkner State Community College and earned my Associates Degree. Before college, I graduated from Theodore High School in 2007. I have a little girl, Madisyn, who is nine months old. She can be adorable and mischievous at the same. But I love spending most of my time with her and my family!
